The Planning and Design Wing forms one of the constituent of the activities of Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board and is headed by Superintending Engineer. This office is engaged in investigation, project formulation, detailed engineering and estimation for providing water supply and sewerage facilities to Chennai City.
Apart from these, this office is also involved in formulating water supply and sewerage projects, as deposit work, for the schemes developed by other Governmental organizations such as TNHB, TNSCB, etc. when requested by them.
Also, as deposit work, project formulation are prepared by this office on receiving requests from private promoters / developers like JK Tyres, SIPCOT (for Industrial Park at Thervoy Kandigai) etc., by charging consultancy fees for Under Ground Sewerage Schemes and Water Supply Schemes.
This office also facilitates and receives proposals from private flat promoters / real estate developers to provide No Objection for swimming pool and concurrence to STP design proposals within CMA limits where Public Sewer system is not available. CMDA has entrusted CMWSSB to scrutinize the design proposals of in-situ STP furnished by the applicants. This wing is scrutinzing such proposals on behalf of CMDA after collecting a scrutiny fee of Rs.35,000.00 per STP proposal with service tax @ 12.36% and according technical clearance. And for swimming pool, No Objection is issued after collecting a scrutiny fee of Rs.5000.00 per application with service tax @ 12.36%
At present the Chennai City is divided into 155 Corporation Divisions with spread out area of 176 Sq.km. Due to the present proposal of Chennai City Expansion from 176 Sq.km. to 430 Sq.km, the Chennai Corporation has annexed by including 9 Municipalities, 8 Town Panchayats and 25 Village Panchayats in and around Chennai City.
The Government has directed CMWSSB that they should evolve proposals for implementing Water Supply and Sewerage Infrastructure facilities under Chennai Mega City Development Mission. There are several local bodies which are devoid of holistic infrastructure facilities both in water supply and sewerage system in the newly expanded Chennai City.
The Government vide it’s G.O.(2D) No.100 dated 15.10.2011 of MA&WS Dep.has accorded “In principle approval” for launching Chennai Mega city Development Mission. The “Chennai Mega City Development Mission” launched by the Govt. will take care of the improvements needed for Chennai City and suburban areas. Accordingly Detailed Project Reports are being prepared for water supply and sewerage schemes. Above projects are proposed to be taken up in phased manner for execution and completion from 2011-12 to 2015-16.TOTAL COST OF PROJECTS/WORKS PROPOSED: Rs.8,909.85 CRORES.
